How do you handle ballasting for optimal weight during flights? Water in PET bottles or specialized ballast bags is commonly used. In your opinion, where is the best place to position this weight?
Placing ballast in front, under the legs, allows for easy dumping during the flight but can slow down pilot turns. Positioning it behind the back is less likely to affect maneuvering but could be hazardous in the event of a crash. Do you also consider the placement relative to the side where your reserve parachute is located—for example, centrally or on the opposite side?
How many kilograms of ballast do you think is still manageable for a safe takeoff and landing? And do you use anything other than water for ballasting? Are there any alternatives that are safe, practical, and easy to handle?
